The foreign trade of Vietnam overcame a number of difficulties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and other negative factors, rose against the trend in 2021. The total import and export volume, export volume and import volume of goods trade all increased significantly, achieving a surplus of US$4.1 billion. The structure of import and export commodities and market structure were further improved. The way of vigorously attracting foreign investment and making full use of free trade agreements such as CPTPP,EVFTA and UKVFTA,have been effectively beneficial to the expansion of foreign trade scale in Vietnam, helped diversify its import and export market and improved trade balance. However, the foreign trade of Vietnam still showed obvious dependence on import and export, and the degree of foreign trade dependence has reached a new high. The economic and trade relations with major trading partners have been positive and sound, and bilateral trade has developed rapidly. China has been Vietnam’s largest trading partner for seventeen consecutive years, and bilateral trade continues to expand. In 2022,Vietnam is expected to make further use of free trade agreements such as RCEP to further integrate into international community and push foreign trade to a new high. However,it will take some time to solve structural problems such as lack of trade dominance and huge deficit in nearby markets.
