A survey of nearly 500 Chinese students in three universities in Malaysia found that the Malaysian government’s national education policy affected the three generations of Chinese families to receive education, which affected their participation in Mandarin,English and Malay. The learning and use of several languages has also affected the reading habits and preferences of their media. The vast majority of Malaysian Chinese families have complicated language use,and the family still retains a good language environment including Chinese dialects. Chinese including Chinese dialects is the main language of Malaysian Chinese families. However, the living space of Chinese dialects in Chinese families is shrinking. The official language of the country of ancestral home has gradually replaced the regional language of the country of origin as the first choice for family language. The Chinese New Generation of Malaysia maintains a more rational attitude towards the study of ethnic languages, but has a higher degree of language recognition for the nation and more insists on the inheritance of the national language.
