Unlike modern standard, completely scientific mapping behavior, the mapping and use of traditional Chinese cartography often present a variety of different appearance depending on the demand of makers and users, which makes the geographic information of a lot of traditional maps is not completely consistent with the drawing time of them, even superposition of geographic information of different times,to which great attention should be especially needed to be paid, when the date of traditional maps is studied. This paper studied Jiangfang Haifang Tu(Map for defense of Yangtze River and the sea)collected in the Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences, finding that the overall structure, geographic information and drawing style and all originated from maps of defense of Yangtze River and the sea in late Ming Period, while several details prove that the map was drawn in the early Qing Dynasty, thus further reflects the traditional map, use, and sentenced to general aspects of practicability and complexity.
