From the perspective of multi-cognition，the Japanese people discussed a lot about the succession issue in the Japanese imperial succession in 2019. A vast majority of Japanese people support the retirement of the Emperor of Japan and want to make the retirement a normal procedure. Thus，the Japanese government complied with the aspiration of the people and made a “special law” to empower Emperor Akihito’s retirement. The Japanese government has been attempting to make appropriate institutional mechanism to relieve the burden of the emperor，which triggers many social discussions. Meanwhile，to guarantee the stable succession of the imperial throne，debates surrounding the establishment of empress or choosing the emperor from the maternal side are renewed. It is suspected that the enthronement ceremony violates the constitutional principles of the separation of religion from politics，popular sovereignty，gender equality and so on. These discussions and debates，to some extent，will continue to influence the reform of the emperor system of Japan.
