日本近代形形色色的翻译语以特定的形式反映了日本接纳西方思潮的脉搏和历史发展的轨迹。本文以“自然”为例，探讨了原语“nature”和传统日语“自然”的内涵。研究发现，原语“nature”与传统日语“自然”的含义虽有部分内容重合，例如“非人为”的解释，但仍有不同之处。“nature”与“自然”原本各自属于不同的语言体系，但在使用翻译语“自然”的过程中，忽视了二者属于不同语系以及它们的不同点。二者最大的不同点在于形式，“自然”可以作为副词使用，而“nature”是名词，其形容词是“natural”，副词是“naturally”，含义与日语“自然”互不相容，特别是“物体界与其诸现象”的解释，这些都影响着对“nature”含义的正确理解。由此，在柳父章所指摘的“宝匣效应”的影响下，翻译语“自然”体现出三层含义。
Various translated words in modern Japan reflect the specific context and historical development trajectory of Japan’s embrace of Western thought. Taking “shizen” as an example，this paper explores the meaning of the original word “nature” and the original Japanese word “shizen”. The English original “nature” and the original Japanese “shizen” have overlapping meanings，but at the same time they differ in some aspects，such as the interpretation of “Non-human behavior”. Although “nature” and “shizen” originally belonged to separate linguistic systems，the fact that they are two separate languages and their differences came to be ignored. The main difference between the two words is their parts of speech. While “shizen” can be used as an adverb，“nature” is a noun whose adjective is “natural” and its adverb is “naturally”，whose meaning is incompatible with that of the Japanese word “shizen”. In particular，the interpretation “objectworld and its various phenomena” affects the precise understanding of the meaning of “nature”. The “cassette effect” pointed out by Yanabu has given the translated word “shizen” three meanings.
