This paper first analyzes regional integration from the perspectives of regionalism，politics and free trade areas，and introduces and analyzes the theoretical viewpoints of promoting regional economic cooperation in China. Secondly，the implementation process of the China Free Trade Area strategy was reviewed，and it was divided into four development stages：initial practice，steady development，rapid advancement and expansion and upgrading. The strategies，layout characteristics and mission objectives of different stages were analyzed. Then，it looks forward to China’s expansion of the network of high-standard free trade areas，analyzes the new ways of China’s regional cooperation in combination with the “Belt and Road” initiative，and puts forward policy suggestions from the perspectives of consolidating and expanding the achievements of free trade areas，promoting the upgrading of signed free trade agreements，accelerating institutional opening-up，strengthening institutional cooperation with countries along the “Belt and Road”，and taking into account opening up and safeguarding national security.
