In 2021-2022,Philippine-U.S.relations have recovered from a long period of depression, showing an upward trend. The Biden administration has been actively repairing its relationship with the Philippines since taking office, while the outgoing Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has also been improving his attitude towards the U.S.,bringing about a “mutual overture” in PH-US political relations. PH-US economic and trade relations have been adversely affected by the epidemic but slowly recovered and got over fluctuating state in 2021. With the reinstatement of Visiting Forces Agreement(VFA),PH-US military exercises have been restored to a pre-epidemic scale, and cooperation in the security sector has expended. In addition, the overlapping influence of colonial history,long-term social assistance, disaster and emergency aid,and the Covid-19 vaccine donation has contributed to an unabated pro-US mentality among the Filipino population. After Marcos Jr. was announced as the 17th president of the Philippines, relations between the two countries were also believed to enter a new era.
