Against the backdrop of a still dire global pandemic situation，the exchanges between Beijing and its international sister cities have continued to grow in popularity. New developments and achievements have been made in serving the overall diplomacy of the country and promoting the construction of the Beijing International Exchange Center in a diversified way，which mainly include taking the diplomacy of heads of state as a guide，promoting the relationship between Beijing and its sister cities to a new stage，promoting practical exchanges and cooperation between the sister cities of countries along “the Belt and Road”，promoting the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and experience in the governance of China，the innovation of sister city communication pattern，the holding of anniversary series activities，the solid promotion of sister city work at the district level，and the prominent soft power factors of sister city work culture，but there are also some shortcomings such as the dormant of sister city cooperation，the lack of sister city normalization cooperation mechanism，the narrow field of sister city cooperation，and the limited participation of civil forces. Looking forward to the future，it is suggested that Beijing should enhance the initiative of external exchanges as well as the substantive and sustainable nature of sister city exchanges，cultivate new fulcrums of international cooperation and learn from the experience of sister cities so as to make new and greater contributions to help deepen Beijing’s high-level opening-up and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
