India is considered to be one of the fastest growing economies but economic distribution is uneven. India has also made signifi cant impact in pulling a large people out of poverty in the last two decades but it has to do a lot for the poor who are in rural areas mainly depending on agriculture and allied activities. Government has been implementing several schemes for the welfare of farmers and to improve their economic conditions. This paper attempts to look into the crucial aspects that would create an impact on the lives of farmers with the sustainable development. The successful case studies on the critical support systems with water conservation, post-harvest supply chain management, integrated farming, corporate social responsibility and participatory implementation of poverty alleviation programs have enhanced the agricultural productivity, profitability and income levels of farmers. Scaling up of these practices will certainly contribute for the inclusive growth.
