Fiji, the transport hub of the South Pacific region, faces the same challenges on all fronts in 2021 amidst the impact of the COVID-19. Fiji’s politics have generally stabilised, with the largest opposition party, the Social Democratic Liberal Party(SODLPA),moving towards a split following the appointment of a new leader, and the re-emergence of Rabuka as a major variable in Fiji’s political future. The ruling party-led amendments to the Land Bill have revived ethnic tensions in the country. Inflationary pressures have increased, unemployment has risen, international export trade has declined and economic weakness has had a significant impact on the domestic political ecology. With concerted efforts,China-Fiji relations have been stable and influenced by extraterritorial factors, and there are challenges that cannot be ignored.
