2020年席卷全球的新冠肺炎疫情对巴新产生了重大影响，巴新经济指标出现了较大幅度的下滑，对外贸易、旅游业等遭受重创，国家财政收入减少，民生受到严重冲击，社会治安形势恶化。2021年，巴新政府一方面全力开展抗击新冠肺炎疫情的斗争，另一方面调整经济发展思路，加强与国际社会合作，创办新兴经济特区，充分利用外资发展能源产业、电力产业和交通运输业，借助丰富的旅游资源，制订旅游发展规划，力促经济振兴，稳定社会秩序。
The COVID-19 that swept the world in 2020 has had a significant impact on Papua New Guinea，with a sharp decline in economic indicators，heavy blows to foreign trade and tourism industries，a decrease in national fiscal revenue，a serious impact on people’s livelihood，and a deterioration in the social security situation. In 2021，on the one hand，the PNG government will make every effort to fight against the COVID-19，on the other hand，adjust its economic development ideas，strengthen cooperation with the international community，establish emerging special economic zones，make full use of foreign investment to develop the energy industry，power industry and transportation industry，and formulate tourism development plans with the help of rich tourism resources，so as to promote economic revitalization and stabilize social order.
