Although the Maritime Silk Road is in an early development stage and many countries along the road are taking a wait-and-see attitude, China has achieved substantial results in port cooperation with countries along the road through approaches such as overseas investment in port construction, investment in shares (holding), mergers and acquisitions and the signing of cooperation agreements between ports (mutual friendly port agreements and cooperation memorandums of understanding). The most remarkable achievements include
cooperation with Port Klang of Malaysia, Port of Kyaukpyu of Myanmar, Port of Colombo of Sri Lanka, Gwadar Port of Pakistan, Port of Haifa of Israel and Port of Piraeus of Greece, covering all major routes of the Maritime Silk Road.
