When Bangladesh became independent in 1970, there was a book written by two economists, Faaland and Parkinson. They said that Bangladesh is a test case of development, which means that we have very few land, backward technology and too many people. They were arguing that if Bangladesh can develop, then that will be a test that with such an adverse condition, a country can develop or at least move forward. We have gone through a big transformation of the economy from 1980 to 2014. Juat as shown, agricultural sector has declined in terms of its contribution to GDP.
