In today’s geo-politics, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) draws huge attention. Reports, analyses, and opinion pieces are written across the global. There are positive analyses as well as negative analyses. Most of the analyses are on politics and not on economics. The subject has become popular among scholars of International Relations, Political Science, and Security Studies etc. In this context, the CPEC is the most discussed and debated project in current history. In spite of entertaining a large number of political analyses, contradictory views, and concerns the Governments of Pakistan and China are, however, strongly committed to go ahead with the CPEC and continuously strive hard to make it a successful bilateral economic model for both and other countries.
This paper is not on the politics of the CPEC as it is widely discussed. Rather it analyses the political economy of the CPEC with a focus on economic fundamentals of the CPEC to see how viable is the CPEC for the economy of Pakistan in concrete terms rather than discussing regional and global political concerns of the CPEC.
