Nepal-China relation is ancient. One can fi nd the cultural relations having the history of over two thousand years. The first official contact between the two nation was established in 644 AD when the Chinese mission to Nepal led by Li I-Piao and Wang Hsuan-Ts’e was received in Kathmandu by the then Nepalese King Narendra Deva and Nepal reciprocating by sending its mission in China in 647 AD. Hitherto Nepal-China official relation has traversed over thirteen hundred years to reach to this present state of bilateral ties, despite intermittent gaps, the relation between Nepal and China has never severed even when most parts of South Asia came under British rule and Nepal was governed by Rana oligarchy loyal to the British Empire. Kathmandu and Beijing maintained the official contact relationship in some forms or another.
