Based on the corpus investigation,this paper studies the syntactic and semantic features of the frequently used construction[yõu de VP]in Modern Chinese. Syntactically,the verb yõu 有 contributes the basic meaning “to exist” to the construction,which means the basic meaning of the construction[yõu de VP]derives from the meaning of yõu 有. The de 得 is grammaticalized from the notional verb dé 得which originally means “to acquire something” in Old Chinese. Most VPs in the construction are monosyllabic verbs indicating strong action,and the patient objects of VPs usually precede to the whole construction or are omitted. Semantically,there are two types of[yõu de VP],namely[yõu de VP]1 expressing the meaning of existence and[yõu de VP]2 denoting the meaning of large quantitative. Moreover,the way of semantic inheritance of[yõu de VP]1 and[yõu de VP]2 is polysemy links in Construction Grammar.
