在当代，弘扬孝文化对于构建和谐社会、培育与践行社会主义核心价值观、解决老龄化时代的养老难题等意义重大。湖北省孝文化资源十分丰富，开发利用孝文化资源，不仅有利于促进湖北省的文化发展，而且有利于建设中华民族的共有精神家园。总体来看，目前湖北省的孝文化发展呈现出事业与产业“比翼齐飞”之势。但由于各地对孝文化发展重视不够，全省孝文化发展表现出发展不均衡、经验不足等现状。湖北省的孝文化资源开发利用亟待进一步加强，具体措施有：其一，合理开发，提高效率；其二，创新体制，整合资源；其三，聚合力量，打造品牌。
