伴随着湖北省机构改革的全面推进，湖北地方志工作部门也进行了机构重组和职能再造。2019年湖北地方志以推进地方志书和综合年鉴的公开出版为中心，统筹协调相关业务，健全管理制度和工作机制，内抓团队阵地、外扬品牌形象，地方志工作呈现新局面。但也存在着志书认知定位不准，理论研究滞后于志书实践，队伍建设薄弱与保障机制不健全，特色不鲜明，重修书、轻开发利用等问题。为此，必须健全地方志工作的领导与服务机制，强化地方志信息化建设，优化修志队伍机构，丰富地方志书体系等，以进一步提高志书质量、打造志书荆楚特色，提高地方志知名度和美誉度。
Hubei local chronicles have witnessed the restructuring of related institutes and their function as the institutional reform is extensively carried forward in Hubei Province. In 2019，Hubei local chronicles have focused on promoting the publication of local records and comprehensive yearbooks，coordinating related business，improving the management system and working mechanism，paying special attention to team building internally and brand image publicity externally，thus rendering the local records work in a promising situation. Yet some problems remain：the cognitive orientation of the records is not always on the target；theoretical research lags behind the practice of local records；team construction is weak and the safeguarding mechanism is imperfect；the characteristics are not distinct；more efforts are made on editing books while less on their exploitation and utilization. For this reason，it is necessary to improve the leadership and service mechanism of local records endeavor，to strengthen the information construction of local chronicles，to optimize the organization of the record repairing team，to enrich the series of local records. These efforts are hoped to improve the quality of local records，to highlight the Jing-Chu characteristics in chronicles，and to enhance the popularity and reputation of local chronicles in Hubei.
