The Philippines is one of the countries most affected and threatened by terrorism in the world. Terrorism in the Philippines was born out of the separatism of Muslims in the Philippines. Since the 21st century,it has come closer to extreme Islamism, which has made a profound impact on Philippine national security, economy and social development. In recent years, the development of terrorism in Philippines has shown many new changes and characteristics, among which the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 has brought double effects to Philippines’s terrorism. On the one hand, epidemic prevention and control measures are conducive to suppressing terrorist attacks and promoting the relevant peace process. On the other hand, centralized epidemic prevention weakens the anti-terrorism force and ability, and the growth of economic and social contradictions under the epidemic may further nourish the soil for the survival and development of terrorism. Duterte’s government has taken legislative, administrative, military, economic and social measures to deal with terrorism, which has achieved certain results, but there are still many problems. The anti-terrorism situation in the Philippines is still not optimistic, and the anti-terrorism cause still has a long way to go.
