The Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area(EAGA)is initiated by the four ASEAN member states,Brunei,Indonesia,Malaysia, and the Philippines. The EAGA is a sub-regional cooperation initiative that aims at strengthening regional cooperation in members’ remote areas(including entire Brunei),advancing socio-economic development, and promoting peace and stability there. The Philippines is an important initiator of the EAGA,and Mindanao located in her south will play a significant role in the sub-regional cooperation of the EAGA. Mindanao is the hub of the Greater Sulu-Sulawesi Corridor. To integrate into the EAGA cooperation, the Philippines has established Mindanao Development Authority to specifically build up connectivity and infrastructure, enhance the business development of leading agricultural enterprises, assist advantageous products to become a part of the value chain and facilitate eco-cultural tourism. Fujian Province in China is geographically close to the Philippines with strong economic ties and people-to-people exchanges, which offers bases and advantages for cooperation. Constructing the Fujian-Mindanao Maritime Economic Corridor, and enhancing the cooperation on sea products,agro-processing,tourism,education,culture as well as other fields are great attempts for China to explore the sub-regional cooperation model with the EAGA.
