In 2020-2021,changes in the international landscape and the impact of COVID-19 pose great challenges to the Philippines’ nation-building efforts, especially in the areas of combating COVID-19,promoting economic recovery, resolving domestic political and security issues, adjusting external relations, and dealing with China-Philippines relations. In order to cope with the changes and challenges in the above areas and achieve the overall national goals, the Philippines has made a series of adjustments on the basis of the original national development strategy and made important progress. However, there are still some problems. Specifically,in the case of COVID-19,the Philippines have fought hard and achieved some results, but is still deeply troubled by the pandemic. In economic and social aspects, the Philippines has made adjustment of the national short-term development plan to a certain extent, economic recovery and social stability have been achieved;in terms of domestic politics and security, the Philippines has made great efforts to stabilize the political situation, deal with security issues and effectively ease domestic conflicts, but it still faces uncertainties and challenges. In terms of foreign relations,Philippines’ foreign policy is becoming more and more mature. While insisting on strategic independence,it adjusts the US-Philippines relationship, strengthens economic cooperation with ASEAN,and expands the network of non-traditional partnerships. In terms of China-Philippines relations, the two countries tries to maintain a good momentum of development, but faces with the impact of Biden’s coming to power on bilateral relations. Against the backdrop of major international changes, the Philippines is faced with many challenges, and it is urgent for it to make the right choice and respond effectively.
