因疫情影响推迟至2020年10月17日的新西兰大选及同时有关施行安乐死法案与大麻娱乐性使用合法化的公投，最终顺利举行。阿德恩领导的工党获得压倒性胜利，赢得议会过半议席，国家党、优先党则遭到重大挫败，阿德恩及工党领导下新西兰对新冠肺炎疫情的成功应对和国家党领导层的动荡等，是其中的重要原因。大选后，新组建的内阁在有所变化的同时，也反映出连续性。对于新内阁来说，疫情应对、经济复兴、气候变化、住房与房地产市场等，可能是关注的优先议题；而在对外关系中，促进国际社会在气候变化、贸易等方面的合作，在寻求加强与传统地区伙伴或盟友合作的同时，增加与美国的互动与合作，则可能会成为新西兰外交的重点领域。
New Zealand’s general election in 2020，with two referendums，was hold successfully，although it was postponed to October 17，due to the concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. Ardern and Labor party won a landslide victory，controlling more than half of the parliament seats；in contract，National party and NZ First tasted bitter defeat. To great extent，Ardern and Labor party’s successful response to the pandemic and the upheaval of National’s leadership shortly before the election are the major factors to the result. The new cabinet which was formed by Labor party alone after the election reflects the continuity as well as change in the Ardern’s agender. The pandemic，economic recovery，climate change，housing and uprising price of real estate will remain the priorities for the new government. In foreign affairs，New Zealand will continue to play an active role on the issues like global warming and trade，promote the relations with its important alliances and partners like Australia and China，and especially develop the cooperation with Biden’s administration.
