2018年中国100座大中城市可持续发展指标体系数据验证分析显示，作为中国经济最发达地区，珠江三角洲城市群及东部沿海城市的可持续发展排名依然比较靠前。2018年可持续发展综合排名前十位的城市分别是：珠海、深圳、北京、杭州、广州、青岛、长沙、南京、宁波和武汉。其中珠海连续两年排名首位。与内陆地区的工业化城市相比，沿海城市有更好的环境质量。在大力高质量发展经济的同时，中西部地区城市面临严峻的环保压力，资源环境、消耗排放、环境治理等指标相对落后，导致他们可持续发展水平排名靠后。
The data verification and analysis results for the sustainable development system in China’s 100 large-and medium-sized cities in 2018 show that Shenzhen，Beijing，the Pearl River Delta city cluster and eastern coastal cities，as the most economically developed regions of China，remained to rank among the top in terms of sustainable development. The cities ranked among the top 10 in terms of sustainable development competitiveness included Zhuhai，Shenzhen，Beijing，Hangzhou，Guangzhou，Qingdao，Changsha，Nanjing，Ningbo and Wuhan. Zhuhai had ranked top in the previous two consecutive years. Compared with inland industrial cities，coastal cities had higher environment quality. While vigorously accelerating economic growth，cities of middle and western regions were faced with severe environmental pressure and backward in terms of resources and environment，consumption and emission，environmental governance and other indices，resulting in their last rankings in terms of sustainable development.
