Under the background of a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation，it is imperative to enhance the competitiveness of the world iron and steel industry. Based on the review of the development of the world iron and steel industry，this paper makes a comprehensive evaluation of the competitiveness of the world iron and steel industry，the competitiveness of the world’s main steel enterprises and the high-quality development of China’s steel enterprises are evaluated comprehensively in order to accurately describe the competitive situation of the world iron and steel industry. The first part of this paper reviews the development history of iron and steel industry in the world，and divides the development history of iron and steel industry into four stages：initial stage，rapid development stage，structural adjustment stage and transformation stage. The second part of this paper evaluates the competitiveness of the world iron and steel industry from four aspects：production capacity，market performance，technology level and development environment of the world steel industry. The third part evaluates the competitiveness of the world’s top ten iron and steel enterprises from three aspects：enterprise scale，operation status and innovation ability. The competitiveness of the world’s top ten crude steel enterprises shows great differences. The fourth part evaluates the high quality development of Chinese iron and steel enterprises from five aspects of innovative development，coordinated development，green development，open development and shared development. The continuous progress of high quality development of Chinese iron and steel enterprises will promote the formation of a higher level of dynamic balance between supply and demand of Chinese iron and steel industry. Finally，the paper looks forward to the development of iron and steel industry from three aspects of intelligent production，green technology and high-end products.
