In 2020，the political situation in Latvia was generally stable. The extraordinary Riga City Council election were held，and new council coalition formed. Before the 7th anniversary of the Zolitūde tragedy，a full judgement on it finally was delivered. The mayor of Ventspils was named on the U.S. sanctions list，triggering responses from the Latvian government to minimize the impact. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic，Latvia’s GDP declined，although some sectors still showed well performance. Thanks to the government’s anti-pandemic measures and good economic performance，Latvia’s credit rating has been revised to Stable from Negative. Construction of the “Rail Baltica” officially started. In diplomacy and security，Latvia firmly stood with EU and NATO，prioritizing the development of the transatlantic partnership. Cooperation among the three Baltic states was emphasized，and cooperation with Russia continued despite confrontation.Latvia has succeeded in overcoming the first wave of the pandemic，but suffered significant impact during the second wave. The administrative reform plan was completed，and the consolidation of administrative regions will soon start. Cooperation between China and Latvia still made certain achievements despite the pandemic. However，complicated international situations also created disharmony in the relationship between the two countries.
