2020年，法国获得了”东盟发展伙伴“地位，说明法国在该地区扮演了重要角色，这将促进双方更加紧密地交流。法国与东盟各国已经有较好的文化交流和合作关系，尤其是与越南、老挝、柬埔寨三国，即原来的印度支那法属殖民地。法国与东盟国家文化交流的一个突出特点就是以法语为纽带，通过法语国家国际组织、法语大学联盟等组织，加强彼此间的文化教育联系。法国与东盟各国在科技、历史遗迹保护等方面有着广泛的合作与交流。
France obtained the status of “Development Partner of ASEAN” in 2020，indicating that France plays an important role in the region and will promote closer exchanges between the two sides. France and ASEAN countries already have good cultural exchanges and cooperative relations，especially with Vietnam，Laos and Cambodia，the former French colonies of Indochina. A prominent feature of France’s cultural exchanges with Southeast Asian countries is the use of French as a link，through some international organizations such as the International Organisation of La Francophonie （IOF），the Francophone University Agency （AUF），etc.，to strengthen their relations in culture and education. France and ASEAN countries also have extensive cooperation and exchanges in science and the protection of historical heritage.
