Hainan,as the province with the lowest latitude in China, borders Southeast Asian countries and is one of the gateways of China’s sea route to the world, with extremely high strategic value. According to the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping on April 13th,the Guiding Opinions of CPC Central Committee and State Council on Supporting Hainan’s Comprehensive Deepening of Reform and Opening-up,the Overall Plan of Hainan Free Trade Port Construction, and the Proposal of CPC Hainan Provincial Committee on Formulating the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-term Goals for 2035(Discussion Draft),Hainan will build a free trade port with high quality and high standards, focusing on the strategic positioning of “three districts and one center”. Among them, service trade is one of the key components of Hainan’s economic system, and the choice of its development direction is of great significance for the province to achieve the strategic objectives of the “14th Five-Year Plan”. By analyzing the development status of Hainan’s service trade in recent years, using the methods of service trade dependence and export competitiveness, this paper holds that Hainan’s service trade has great potential for digital trade, expanding opening up and encouraging foreign investment policies, but there are also some problems and challenges, such as low dependence on service trade, high proportion of traditional service trade, insufficient cultivation of new business forms, etc.,and puts forward some suggestions on strengthening the construction of information technology infrastructure, building a special service export base and attract high level professionals.
