Gaullism is a principle of French independent foreign policy put forward by French General Charles de Gaulle, and it is the value that France must become an independent and powerful country. In Charles de Gaulle’s view,France’s economy, military affairs and diplomacy should not be excessively attached to a certain country or a certain group,so as to better safeguard France’s national interests. Most of the subsequent French presidents continued Gaullism, and the current President Macron participated in Charles de Gaulle’s activities for several years in a high-profile manner, saying that he was a “Gaullist” in public. His diplomatic style also had the color of neo-Gaullism,which not only continued the traditional route of Gaullism, but also made strategic adjustments to adapt to the current international situation.
