This article reviews the development trend of the financial industry in 2020 and the mergers and acquisitions activities in the financial industry during the year. Further，the article summarizes the number and values of the mergers and acquisitions transactions in the financial industry and also describes the features of mergers and acquisitions activities in various industry sub-sectors and in different geographic regions. Under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic，both the numbers of announced and completed mergers and acquisitions transactions declined significantly in 2020 compared to 2019. On top of the decline，most mergers and acquisitions cases in the financial industry were related-party transactions. The most impactful mergers and acquisitions transaction in 2020 was China Everbright Group’s private placement of shares to Central Huijin Investment Ltd. Other well-known transactions include Yingda Co.，Ltd.’s acquisition of Yingda International Fiduciary Co.，Ltd.，Yuexiu Financial Holdings Group’s sale of holding subsidiary to CITIC Securities Co.，Ltd.，and SDIC Capital Co.，Ltd.’s increase in investment in Essence Securities Co.，Ltd..
