Since 2020，under the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic，the firms in the traditional energy sector presented a declining tendency to invest through mergers and acquisitions，leading to an inactive mergers and acquisitions market. In terms of the market scale，in the first 11 months of 2020，there were only 60 mergers and acquisitions transactions in China’s mining industry. The total disclosed amount of the transaction prices barely exceeded RMB 56 billion. The proportion of transactions involving a state-owned enterprise was high. In 44 out of the 60 mergers and acquisitions transactions in China’s energy sector，state-owned enterprises were the buyers. The most impactful mergers and acquisitions cases in the mining industry in 2020 were Yanzhou Coal Mining Co.，Ltd. acquiring Yankuang Group’s assets，Yanzhou Coal Mining Co.，Ltd. acquiring Inner Mongolia Mineral Co.，Ltd.’s stock，Datong Coal Industry Co.，Ltd. acquiring Tongxin Coal Mine Co.，Ltd.’s stock，Pingmei Co.，Ltd. acquiring Zhongping Supply Chain Management Co.，Ltd.’s stock，and Shanxi Coal International Energy Group acquiring Jingjiang Power Generation Co.，Ltd.’s stock.
