Early parliamentary election of Timor-Leste was held smoothly in May 2018. The election of a “majority” government ended months of political deadlock. The 2018 budget was finally approved by the parliament, which put the politics and economy back on track. However, the political setback still had a negative impact on the country’s economy, with slight declines on some economic indicators. Timor-Leste signed a maritime boundary delimitation agreement with Australia and acquired a large proportion of equity in relevant oil and gas industry, taking on a more active role in future joint development of oil and gas resources. The relationship between China and Timor-Leste continued to develop in an all-round way,and engineering cooperation remained a focus.
