2012年，加勒比地区政局呈现整体稳定、局部动荡的特点。地区经济整体上开始复苏，但通货膨胀、债务危机和失业问题仍然是不少国家面临的主要经济难题。各国之间教育发展不均衡和暴力犯罪日益增多是该地区社会领域面临的主要问题。加勒比地区进一步加速融入世界经济体系；发达国家和国际金融机构对这一地区的经济援助进一步加强；该地区也成为中国海外投资的重要目的地之一。
In 2012, the Caribbean region was characterized by the overall stability and local turbulence. The regional economy started to recover as a whole; however, inflation, debt crisis and unemployment remained the major economic challenges faced by many countries. The uneven development of education among countries and high frequency of violent crimes were the main problems in the social arena. Moreover, the Caribbean further accelerated its integration into the world economy; developed countries and international financial institutions also made further efforts to offer their economic aid to the region; the Caribbean has become one of China's major destinations of overseas investment.
