2008 was anything but a quiet year for Argentina. A crisis triggered by a governmental proposal of raising grain exports tax posed a formidable challenge to Cristina’s administration while the Frente para la Victoria in power lost its dominance in the Congress. Since September,as the negative impacts of the international crisis became more evident,Argentine economy started to loose the momentum of steady growth in previous months with declining exports, falling fiscal income, slowing development pace and continuously swelling sovereign risk. At the same time, manifestations and demonstrations broke out one after another putting more pressure on social stability. In face of the severe economic and social situation,Mrs.Cristina’s government was forced to implement a diplomatic strategy focusing on solving domestic problems.
