The paper starts with indicating the differences between Curtius’ masterpiece European Literature and the Latin Middle Ages and other works on Medieval Latin studies. Then it analyzes how Curtius’ Medieval Latin Studies developed on the basis of his educational background，teaching and research experience. Having commented the criticisms towards the book，the author points out that Curtius’ contributions still inspire new accumulation，new synthesis and new analysis of knowledge，that the construction or re-construction of the humanistic tradition that Curtius expected will be realized.
