Since Trump took office,US LNG exports to the EU have continued to increase rapidly. At present, the U.S. has become the third largest LNG supplier in Europe, and the US-EU relationship has been improved. The main economic driver is that the U.S. LNG is economically competitive, which helps the U.S. expand internationally LNG markets. The strengthening US-EU energy relations is also driven by Trump’s aggressive energy dominance policies which helps the U.S. facilitate its potential international buyers. Plus, complex geopolitical, economic and security games among US,EU and Russia also work well. Besides existing traditional cooperation mechanisms, the Trump Administration has launched a variety of new energy mechanisms. They both deepen the US-EU consensus on energy issues, and accordingly strengthen US-EU energy relations. It is expected that in the future the U.S. will continue to increase LNG exports to EU,but this cannot fundamentally change EU’s heavy dependence on Russian natural gas.
