In 2019，the social and political crisis continues in Nicaragua and the legitimacy of the Ortega administration has faced increasing challenges，but it is highly possible for him to remain in power. Nicaragua’s economy ended 2019 with a negative growth rate due to the ongoing social and political unrest and it is one of the three economies that has experienced two consecutive years in a recession. Because of the economic contraction，the government implemented the tax reform and the social security reform law in order to increase revenue and reduce expenditures. Nicaragua has made the most progress in closing the gender gap. Nicaragua’s foreign policy focused on deepening diplomatic ties with the Bolivarian Alliance，Central American Integration System and Russia；Its relationship with the US has worsened.
