A comparison of thirty-year trends of death patterns among groups of people in the Huaihe River shows that the most severely and persistently polluted areas,i.e.,such tributaries as the Honghe,Shaying,Wohe and Kuihe Rivers, happen to be the ones with the fastest growing numbers of deaths caused by digestive tract tumors, according to results of analytical research on changes in such deaths in the Huaihe River Basin published in 2013.Those numbers have each been rising at a rate 3-10 times as high as the average rate at which the number of deaths caused by a corresponding tumor has been rising in China.Spatial analysis results show that severely polluted areas are highly consistent with areas with high incidence of several emerging digestive tract tumors.
