煤基气态能源产业是指以煤炭为资源基础，通过综合开发和加工转化而形成，以气态为终端利用形式的各类产品、技术和服务，就产品形态而言，主要包括煤层气、煤炭气化（焦炉煤气、煤制气、地下气化）等以及以其为原料生产的各类后续化工产品。我国特殊的能源发展国情，山西煤炭在全国能源发展格局中的特殊地位使大力培育和发展煤基气态能源产业，把山西建成全国重要的煤基气态能源产业示范基地具有极为深远的战略意义。
Coal-based gaseous energy industry is based on coal resources，which supply a wide range of products，technology and service in the form of gaseous state by comprehensively developing，processing and transforming. In terms of products form，it mainly includes coal bed methane（CBM），coal gasification（coke-oven gas，coal gas，underground gasification），and kinds of subsequent chemical products made from them. Under special circumstances of energy development in China，Shanxi Coal holds a special place in developing pattern of national energy development. Therefore，it is a profound significance to foster and develop coal-based gaseous energy industry，and to build Shanxi into an important national demonstration base of coal-based gaseous energy industry.
