With the film and television industry reform，films and TV dramas are not only the focus of the investment in cultural industry，but also become the agents of mainstream cultural values. Since the new century，China’s economy has been rising，films and TV dramas also have begun to play an important cultural function. This paper presents the new changes of films and TV dramas creation from the following three aspects：mainstream films，youth films and TV dramas，and new Chinese stories，which might include the problems of the new national identity，the re-differentiation of the young social strata and the emergence of the modern subject. From cultural perspectives，these works provided their answers to the questions regarding challenges China is currently facing.
