In the 2009 Macau Chief Executive and Legislative Elections,political elites stressed on informal politics for their negotiation and avoided open competition.However,the turnout rate and the number of voters casting their ballots broke the record in terms of electoral participation.These reflected the inclination of public participation in politics.Political elites are expected to adjust the practice of informal politics and to incorporate public participation through formal process;otherwise,the elite-mass tension will be intensified and lead to political instability.On the other hand,although the 2009 legislative election was relatively clear in comparing in 2005,the authorities have yet proved their ability combating electoral corruption.They are expected to enhance their capacity and capability of legal enforcement in the sake of fair election.
