Franco-German cooperation occupies an important position in the foreign relations between the two countries. Since taking office，Macron has actively promoted bilateral cooperation in order to promote the reform of the euro zone and realize his foreign policy strategy of revitalizing Europe. The signing of the treaty of Aachen represents the determination of France and Germany to deepen bilateral cooperation and promote the development of bilateral relations. However，due to historical，geographical and cultural factors，France and Germany have different perspectives. In the context of Trump’s “America first” policy，Brexit，the rise of emerging countries and the EU’s own problems，Franco-german cooperation is of greater practical significance. Yet Angela Merkel is determined not to be re-elected and has focused on domestic political unity. This seems to have given Macron more room to take the initiative on issues such as Europe. But Macron is hampered by a relative lack of French economic power and the constraints of domestic situation. It is both an opportunity and a challenge for Emmanuel Macron to overcome the obstacles，win back the initiative in bilateral relations，regain the dominant position，foster convergence and strengthen Franco-German cooperation.
