2018年11月，国家主席习近平首次访问菲律宾，中菲关系再次得到公众的普遍关注。随着国家“一带一路”倡议在东南亚不断推进，近年来国内对菲律宾语人才培养和菲律宾研究的需求不断升温，政府部门、企事业单位对菲律宾语人才的需求十分迫切。当前，已有五所高校开设菲律宾语专业。北京大学作为国内第一所设立菲律宾语言文化专业的高校，在专业建设、人才培养、师资队伍建设等方面有自己的一套独特的模式与经验。推而广之，这一探索不仅对本专业的建设意义重大，对国内其他非通用语专业的建设同样具有借鉴意义。
In November 2018，President Xi Jinping visited the Philippines for the first time，and Sino-Philippine relations once again received widespread public attention. With the continuous deepening of the national “the Belt and Road” initiative，the demand for Filipino talent training and Philippine research has been heating up in recent years. Five universities have opened Filipino majors. The demands for Filipino talents by government departments，enterprises and institutions are very urgent. Philippine Studies Program in Peking University’s is the first university in China to establish this major. It has its own unique experience in professional construction，talent training，and youth teacher training. These experience explorations are not only of great significance to the development of our own major，but also has reference significance for the development of other Less Commonly Taught Foreign Languages in China.
