“后妃之德”:《周南·关雎》的古典学阐释

《关雎》一诗,居《诗经》之首,在《毛诗》文本系统中占有特殊地位。从产生地域上讲,《关雎》属于周、召二南。“二南”之义,与音乐有密切的关系。《关雎》中的名物与整个诗义都有密切关联,“君子、淑女”“荇菜”“琴瑟、钟鼓”是理解《关雎》一诗的关键词。对于《关雎》主题的理解,古今多有不同:今文三家诗将之理解为“讽刺诗”,古文毛诗将之理解为“颂美诗”,现代诗学则多从文辞字面义出发,从文学角度理解为一首恋爱诗。从古典学的角度讲,《关雎》“居始”的地位,使其具备了独特的教化意义。《毛诗·序》所谓“后妃之德”的主题解说,背后体现的是“正始之道,王化之基”的政治观念,这在中国思想史上产生了深远的影响。

Abstract

Listing at the first poem of The Book of SongsGuan Ju plays a special and significant part in the textual system of The Mao Commentary.In terms of geographical source,Guan Ju was originated in the two parts of South (nan):Chow-nan and Shaou-nan.The definition of the“two parts of south” is also closely related with music.There is also a deep relationship between the nouns and materials mentioned in Guan Ju and the meaning of this poem and the key concepts which could help understand the poem are lady,lord,duckweed,lutes,bells and drums.The interpretations of Guan Ju differ from the traditional ones to modern ones.The three schools of poems regarded it as a poem of political criticism while the Mao school regarded it as a poem of praise.As for the modern interpretation,concerning about the lyric itself,Guan Ju is regarded as a love poem.From the angle of the classics,since Guan Ju is the first poem of the whole The Book of Songs,it has a major value of cultivation.The interpretation of“the virtue of the imperial concubines” in The Mao Commentary indicates the political idea of“the way of the correct begin,the base for an ideal government”,which has a deep effect on the history of Chinese thought.
