The year of 2017 is a crucial year in Malaysian history. The ruling and opposition parties fought fiercely around the 2018 general election. Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib strongly suppressed the dissidents within the party，further consolidated his leadership position in UMNO. The opposition parties led by the former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir made great efforts to pressure Najib，targeting the 2018 general election. On May 9，2018，the Pakatan Harapan led by Mahathir eventually won 113 parliamentary seats and defeated the ruling coalition Barisan Nasionalled by Najib. For the first time in the history of Malaysia，the ruling party has changed.
