In 2019 global governance was further impacted by many factors, including, among others, unilateralism, the withdrawal of some major countries, and competition among the great powers. Governance problems were further heightened. The legitimacy and effectiveness of current governance mechanisms faced many challenges. At the global level as well as at the regional and cross-regional levels, reform of global governance institutions achieved some progress. Reform of the WTO remained the focus of the international community. However, influenced by unilateralism and trade protectionism,it has become even more difficult for the relevant parties to reach a new consensus. In contrast, regional multilateral economic and trade governance mechanisms made prominent progress. With its increasing participation in global governance,China is furthering the shaping of an open and inclusive global multilateral governance system and is contributing positive factors to current global governance.
