This paper discusses the effects of scientific communication on GM food safety from the perspective of risk society and examines the national image presented in scientific communication from the perspective of public psychology in risk society. Through literature review, six factors influencing the scientific communication effect of GM food safety are found:“unknowable effect”,risk perception, benefit perception, knowledge, respect for scientific authority, and social trust (expert trust/government trust). Through further empirical research,it is found that the risk perception/benefit perception of GM food has an important impact on its acceptability. Respect for scientific authority and social trust are important emotional factors affecting attitude (acceptability). Knowledge can inspire people’s rational cognitive mode. Public attitudes to emerging technologies are not entirely determined by rational cognitive models, but also mixed with emotional models. In addition, although the “unknowable effect” of GM technology does not show a predictive effect on acceptability,it has a positive impact on the risk perception of GM foods.
